How to Play Cribbage JD
Cribbage is played with a standard deck of 52 cards and consists of three key stages: the Starter, Pegging (Play), and Show (Scoring).
The Starter
-
After the initial deal, the non-dealer cuts the deck.
-
The dealer reveals the top card (the “starter”).
-
If it’s a Jack, the dealer scores two points for “his heels” (also called “his nibs”).
The Play (Pegging)
During this phase, players alternate playing cards to accumulate points for:
-
Fifteen-two: Two points for reaching a total of 15.
-
Pairs: Two points for a pair, six for three-of-a-kind, twelve for four-of-a-kind.
-
Runs: Three or more consecutive cards, worth 3–7 points depending on length.
-
Last card: One point for playing the last card.
The Show (Hand Scoring)
After all cards are played:
-
Each player scores their hand (plus the starter card).
-
The dealer also scores the crib (extra set of cards).
-
Points are awarded for fifteens, runs, pairs, flushes, and nobs (Jack matching the starter's suit).
